Verdict: iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 6 Plus

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have set sales records for Apple in just the few short months since their original release. While both phones may seem almost identical, there are some key differences you should know about before you decide to purchase your next phone. If you don’t know whether to get the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, then hopefully this comparison guide will help you:

Size/Portability

iphone 6Both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus have sacrificed portability with a larger screen size. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch screen and the iPhone 6 Plus has an even larger 5.5 inch screen, which are the two largest models that Apple has ever released.

The iPhone 6 is slightly thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus, but the difference is really nominal when you compare the overall size of the phone. However, the weight difference is very evident. The iPhone 6 weighs only 129g whereas the iPhone 6 Plus weighs 25% more at a whopping 172g – making it the heaviest phone Apple has ever released. You almost feel like you’re holding onto a mini brick when holding the iPhone 6 Plus because it is that heavy.

Durability

By now you’ve probably heard of what the tech world refers to as “Bendgate.” Some users have accidently bent their iPhone 6 Plus after the phone was in a pocket for an extended period of time. However, the truth is there really isn’t much to worry about. Here’s why:iphone bend

While some phones do perform better in stress tests than the iPhone 6 Plus, the truth is you could bend just about any smartphone with enough effort. While it may appear that the iPhone 6 Plus bends easier than other phones, the average person isn’t going to simply bend their phone by putting it in a back pocket.

Performance

Both the iPhone6 and iPhone 6 Plus perform at the same high level. Both models use the A8 processor chip along with the M8 motion co-processor. So what does this mean?

This means that both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus perform about 25% quicker in general performance and 50% in graphical processing than the iPhone 5. Neither phone really has an advantage here.

Features

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have virtually the same features that perform pretty much identically. Both phones use Apple’s latest operating system iOS8, which is loaded with new features and applications you’ll find useful.

Battery Life

The typical battery life for any model of the iPhone is about 10 hours of typical use, which is what the battery life of the iPhone 6 is. However, Apple announced the battery life of the iPhone 6 Plus is actually 12 hours. Apple put in a bigger battery to accommodate the higher power requirements needed for the bigger screen, but it also apparently enhanced the battery life an extra couple of hours as well.

Price

Price is where the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus really separate from each other. The iPhone 6 is priced at $199 for a 16GB, $299 for a 64GB model, and $399 for a 128GB model. The iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $299 for 16GB, $399 for 64GB, and $499 for 128GB.

These prices are for the phones if you start or renew a contract. If you buy the phone itself without a contract you can expect to pay up to $549 for the iPhone 6 and $849 for the iPhone 6 Plus.iphone photo

The Final Verdict

Unless you really want a larger screen, there is really no clear advantage as to which phone is better. If you’re not in the mood to shell out a hundred extra bucks, then the iPhone 6 will do you just fine. On the other hand, if you’ve got the money and really want an enhanced gaming experience, the iPhone 6 Plus is the better phone.

Overall, both phones are very functional and desirable and which phone is better really just comes down to your personal needs and taste.
